TRAINING OVERVIEW
The need for narcotics investigation training in Wisconsin emanates from the ongoing opiate and methamphetamine epidemics, along with the continuing presence of other narcotics, and the associated crime and problems that drug sales and use bring to communities. DCI agents assigned to the narcotics focus area are uniquely qualified to lead this type of training as they conduct these investigations as their primary job responsibility. Many task forces rotate their personnel in and out of those assignments every three to five years. Promotions and retirements also cause a regular change in personnel. This frequent turnover results in a regular cycle of new investigators entering narcotics task forces or agency assigned drug units each year.
One of the critical missions of DCI is to provide training to other public safety professionals throughout the State. This is well-documented in the various specialty training courses DCI regularly conducts. Most classes are highly sought after, reach capacity, and receive very positive reviews.
