A two part webinar series focused on successful investigation and prosecution of strangulation cases
presented by Assistant Attorney General Miriam Falk and
Program and Policy Analyst from the Office of Crime Victim Services, Keeley Crowley.
Research into strangulation in the past several years has revealed and clarified the significance of non-fatal strangulation events in intimate partner violence as strong indicators of future lethality. Additionally, attention has now been paid to misunderstandings concerning the kinds of injuries resulting from a non-fatal strangulation, and has connected those injuries to more effective investigation and prosecution strategies.
This two-part webinar series will engage participants in developing a more robust understanding of strangulation as a part of power and control, examine the physical mechanisms involved in various strangulation methods and their connection to physical injury, signs and symptoms, and will guide participants in developing trauma-based questioning techniques and investigation strategies that can result in additional corroborative evidence and stronger prosecutions that capture the gravity of the strangulation case.
